My boyfriend is allergic and so is my roomate....however my boy doesn't care because he loves cats and says that its not that bad if you love an animal.
My roomate however freaks if a cat even runs through the house. What do I do??? I can't move out and I really want a cat!!! My two cats and dog live at my parents in the country and I canno't take them away from happiniess nor can I move out!

Re: I can't have a cat
Thu, October 20, 2005 - 6:39 AMyou could get a hairless cat. they dont give you allergies.
also if you bathe the cat regularly and groom them well they cause less allergies. females also cause less allergies.
what about having an outside cat?
you could build it a little house.
my boyfriend used to be allergic to my cat but he got used to it and it doesnt cause him allergies anymore.
and his were bad. his eyes would swell up so much that he looked asian. and he would get massive runny nose and sneezing issues.
you could also vol. at the local shelter. when rescue cats come in sometimes the workers take them home to get them used to being in a house until they are adopted.
that way it would be helping cats and yourself plus the roomate might see that having a cat is not as bad as they think when it is cared for properly without the pressure of dealing with it as a perm. solution. -

Re: I can't have a cat
Sun, October 23, 2005 - 1:32 AMNo matter what I say to this guy....he is very stubborn and won't bugde. To make things worse I was babysitting at the next door neighbors and he brought home a cute little kitty. BREAKS MY DAMN HEART.
One of my best friend's cats just had kitties about a month ago and I choose the one I wanted and it is so adorable. I choose it for what??? If I try and have a cat ...I will most likley be lookes at like a bitch because dude has allergies.
But like I said so does my boy and he is an animal lover...so he just puts up with it! -

Re: I can't have a cat
Sun, October 23, 2005 - 1:34 AMFunny thing too is that he is in this tribe. I just don't think he knows how much of a lameass he is being. If ppl I know can put up with it for my hapiness.....then why wouldn't a friend?? Besides chances are the cat would be outside most the time exploring and would come in to eat and sleep at night!\
Whatever (tries not to cry AGAIN) -

Re: I can't have a cat
Wed, October 26, 2005 - 1:35 PMsomewhere a year or more ago on tribe I wrote a tTOM of information about alergies and cats. My mom was severely allergic (Did have breathing attacks and we used to rush her to the hospital). She made it through 20+ years of having indoor cats (has them now). I'll see if I can find the posts. I just don't have the energy to retype it all. -

Sat, November 26, 2005 - 6:19 PMThat would be great. you should follow up on this! Well...he wouldn't let me get a cat. I mean there was no way to have a happy household if I would have brought one home. So......I got a dog. I will have to post some pictures of him soon. His name is Sol (spanish word for sun) cause my other dogs name is luna. He is sweet and is going to be huge!!!! Ia m happy, but still wish to get a kitty when I move outta this place!

Re: I can't have a cat
Tue, January 10, 2006 - 1:53 PMI am allergic to cats, yet I have owned two cats for over ten years. It is very simple, I take an allergy pill every day and I am fine. I use generic Claritin that I buy at Walmart for around $2.40 a box.
Maybe you should offer to buy your roommates allergy meds. The generic Claritin is very mild, no side effects to worry about.
Cats are wonderful creatures and I refuse to let my body's stupid allergies keep me from having some.
